Why X Isn’t a Cesspool
For the umpteenth time, someone on a non-Musk-owned platform lobbed the tired accusation that X, the Musk-owned digital town square, has “degenerated into a cesspool.” It’s a predictable claim that I disagree with and shows lazy thinking. The truth about X (and any platform) is far more interesting than the snarky hot take suggests.
Kindle Owners: Time’s Running Out!
Starting 26th February 2025, Amazon is scrapping a niche but handy feature: the ability to download your purchased Kindle books to your computer and transfer them to your device via USB. What’s the big deal? Why does this matter? And can you do anything about it?
Why Are We So Siloed in Our Preferred Technology?
Why do people form such strong allegiances to technology brands? Why do discussions about e-ink tablets, writing tools, or operating systems become full-blown digital arguments?
My 2024 Rewind
Before I begin this 2024 rewind, I should state that if any family or friends read this (or if you have been following my journey for a while), please understand that my memory is woeful. I’m relying on YouTube videos, social media posts, and Substack articles to help jog my memory. With that in mind, I ask for your forgiveness if some details and dates aren’t 100% accurate.
Overall, I believe the content in this ‘rewind’ is generally in the right ball park!
Disliked but Not Defeated!
The dislike button is a small symbol that can stir up big emotions for content creators.
Recently, a viewer left a comment on one of my videos saying they loved my channel but gave a thumbs down to that particular video. Why? Helpfully, they also left a comment, and it turns out it wasn't because of the editing, lighting, or even my presentation but simply because they didn’t like the tech product I was reviewing.
A (Very) Brief History of AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) may seem like a brand-new thing, but it actually started way back in the 1950s when a handful of scientists began toying with the idea of creating machines that could “think”. In 1956, at a conference at Dartmouth College (New Hampshire, United States), the term “artificial intelligence” was coined.
Amazon Kindle Bombshell: New Kindles for 2024
As expected, Amazon dropped some new Kindles onto its store this week, but what we didn’t expect was six new models, including one we’ve been asking for for a long time: a colour Kindle!
Building an Audience When No One’s Watching
Whether writing a blog, posting videos, or working on that perfectly hilarious/philosophical/topical/[insert your own here] social media post, the early stages of building an online presence can be incredibly lonely. You might spend hours brainstorming ideas, perfecting your content, and hitting “post,” only to hear crickets.
AirPods Pro 2 are Now Hearing Aids
Unless you know me personally, you wouldn't be aware of something about me that might surprise you. It's something that can turn everyday social interactions into a mental workout. It's not something you can obviously see, like a limb in a cast or glasses on a face.
It’s my hearing.
What is a Photo?
It seems that until very recently, answering the question, "What is a photo?" was simple. In my childhood, a photo was just a picture. A moment in time captured on film, frozen forever. It was as close as we could get to preserving memories.
Why Do E-Ink Tablets Like Boox Allow Writing on Books, While the Kindle Scribe Does Not?
Amazon’s Kindle Scribe and Boox tablets are well-known in the e-reader and note-taking market. Even though they share similar hardware, such as touchscreens that support stylus input, they differ significantly in functionality regarding how users of one of these devices might digitally write on the pages of their books.
How Replying to Comments Can Skyrocket Your Subscriber Count
Let me tell you from personal experience that growing a YouTube channel (or any social media account) is not just about numbers but also about building a community and a sense of belonging. The weekly grind of creating compelling videos and being consistent with uploads can be challenging. At times, you might feel you're going nowhere fast. However, a critical but often overlooked factor is engaging with your audience through comments.
Am I Going Through a Mid-Life Crisis?
The mid-life crisis. It's a term you hear tossed around quite casually as if it's not real. It's often joked about with the trope of men buying fast cars and even quicker motorcycles while arranging a year-long trip around Europe!
